Biographical Statement
Theresa Anderson’s ongoing series, stickywater, is an accumulation of collected and fabricated objects, performance art documentation, video, photography, fragmentary text, drawing, and painting. Most often her work is a shifting and obscure exploration of the edges of memories prompted by something read, dreamt, the touch/tactile quality of a material, or a long forgotten smell. Her recent series of paintings concentrate on nonsensical place with urban and rural elements seeming to push out from areas of dreamlike void. Dripped and washed into something vaguely seductive and rich, Anderson mixes the domestic interior, billboards, grain silos, electric grids, and high fashion in a distillation of delicate and aggressive beauty.
Anderson’s work is part of private collections and has won grants, international contests, awards, and been included in publications such as the New York Journal of Arts and Design under “new talent”, Denver Post Fine Art Critic, Kyle MacMillan wrote “she is quickly distinguishing herself as one of the region's most promising emerging artists”, and Westword Fine Art Critic, Michael Paglia wrote “With this show, and others I've seen by her, Anderson proves she's one of the city's up-and-coming talents.” Currently the director and an exhibiting artist at Ice Cube Gallery, an associate member at Pirate: Contemporary Art and Anderson also has a large painting in the London based Saatchi Gallery archives for view on rotational exhibit as part of the Showdown program. Having been part of the Feminist Interrogations ehibits at ARC Gallery in Chicago, Anderson was recently juried into the international group exhibit Transitions, at Pen and Brush Gallery in New York. She is now in the midst of her 2010 Creative Residency at Platteforum in Denver, Colorado.
